About Caitlin

Name (who are you).

Caitlin Scott. Owner and lead photographer of Caitlin Scott Photography. I do it all – book it, shoot it, edit it, proof it, order it, deliver it, clean it, invoice it, and bill it. I’m a Cait of all trades.

Tell me about growing up and school.
I grew up in a big family. I’m the oldest of 4. We had 3 dogs and 2 horses. The animals are a big part of our family. The dogs were constantly going crazy because of all the people coming and going. I swear our back door should have been a revolving one. People came and went by the minute (and it’s still like that today). I grew up playing tennis and played through high school and college. That was my outlet for stress because there is nothing like hitting a tennis ball 80 miles an hour to really work the stress out. I went to Cabrini College in Radnor, PA and graduated with a degree in Marketing.

So why photography then?
I do not belong behind a desk. I have way too much energy to sit behind a desk. Ever since I was little my Mom always had a camera in my face. It's something that I got used to very quickly. By the time I was 6, I had the camera in her face. I've learned so much from my Mom, and photography was just a bonus.

What kind of cameras do you use?
Currently I’m shooting with Nikon D700's.

How do you describe your photographic style?
Simple and to the point. And completely photojournalistic.

What do you do when you aren’t shooting?
I like to play with my son, Cooper, watch movies, play with my puppy, Miley, and I love to read. I love books about mystical things and love stories. I love spending time with my husband, he's fabulous. I'm usually drinking Starbucks. And if I'm not doing any of those things then I'm probably watching Vampire Diaries, Gossip Girl, Grey's Anatomy, or Big Bang Theory – those are my guilty pleasures.

What sound or noise do you love?
I love the sound of the shutter on my camera opening and closing. Anyone’s shutter really. Usually stops me in my tracks if I’m out and about. But non-photographical sound – I would have to go with the sound of a good thunderstorm on a warm Summer night.

You in 5 different words.
Mom. Wife. Daughter. Sister. Photographer.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Disney World. I was there so many times as a child. It's the one place that is never changing and always brings a smile to my face.

FAQ

Wedding FAQ’s

When we book our wedding with you – what do we get?
When you contract with me, you are contracting for coverage of your wedding, with ME, a second photographer for the same amount of time and a DVD of the digital negatives.
There are so many other options to add on as well – the possibilities are really endless.

Is an engagement session included in all of your packages?
Yes! An engagement session is included, at the location of your choice. Documenting your interaction as a couple prior to your wedding day really lets me get to know you  - Contact me for more information!

I want a customized wedding package – is that possible?
All of my packages are completely customizable by you. After all, it is your day, so you should be able to get exactly what you want. I’m very flexible with photography bookings!

You’re located in South Jersey, but how far do you travel? Do you do destination weddings?
Of course we travel! I book throughout New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware. However, that doesn’t mean that I don’t contract with brides in other locations. Destination weddings! Of course I shoot weddings on vacation locations! Nothing is better than traveling and shooting at the same time! I love destination weddings!

Do I get to pick the second photographer for my wedding day?
More often than not – I choose the second photographer who will work with me during your wedding day. I work with many photographers and location and availability normally determines who works with me on your day. All of my second photographers are extremely qualified and very talented.
However, of course you can see samples of their portfolios and even meet them if you’d like! Just ask!

Portrait Session FAQ

Do you shoot sessions other than weddings?
Yes! Whether its a newborn, toddler, high school senior, maternity, family, engagement session, trash the dress, bridal portrait, day after the wedding or just because, I shoot it….Don’t hesitate to ask!

Can I get the final images on a CD?
Yes! The CD of images is available for purchase. You can also order prints directly through me as well.

Is two hours really enough time to get photos?
That’s more than enough time. It’s time for multiple locations and even outfit changes.
Don’t worry, I won’t let you go home unhappy!

Are 60-100 photos really alot? For two hours that doesn’t seem like many!
In two hours I shoot hundreds of photos. Keep in mind I’m shooting duplicates in case you blink,
have a silly look on your face, etc. I want you to have the best of the best, I shoot way more shots than is needed.
Trust me, I’m not withholding images from you. You’re getting it all!

Is there a better time of day for our session?
I usually recommend starting sessions about an hour and a half to two hours before sunset.
The lighting is very soft and the least harsh on your skin. It’s my favorite time to shoot.

Should I wear something specific?
I recommend wearing colors that compliment each other. Stay away from busy prints or overly patterned articles of clothing. They tend to take away from the focus of the image, which is you. Pick something that is appropriate for the season. Bright and bold colors usually look the best!

Should we bring anything with us?!?
Saving the date for an upcoming wedding? Bring a prop with the date on it!  Does your child have a favorite blanket or something meaningful to them? Bring that blankey or teddy along! Do you love umbrellas? Have a thing for balloons? Bring them with you! The details in a shoot look amazing!

General FAQ’s

Do you shoot Canon or Nikon?
NIKON!! I love my Nikon cameras. Growing up, I learned to shoot with my mom’s Canon DSLR, but when it came time to invest in my own equipment, I chose Nikon. I just feel that the colors are a little bit more vibrant and the clarity of the images always amazed me. But really, they are both amazing camera brands. Nikon is just my choice.

Who is that cute kid on the blog we keep seeing?
That’s my son! His name is Cooper and he was born May 24, 2011. He’s the greatest gift my husband and I could ever have asked for. He’s growing fast and learning so much every day. He’s the greatest model I could ask for. He’s pretty cute!

Do you have an ipad?
Yep, my super amazing husband bought one for us for Christmas 2011. He’s such a keeper! I love keeping up with all my fellow photographer’s blogs and I love playing a quick game of Bejeweled every now and then!
